Why on Gods green earth would I want to do this? There are a few reasons.
1. I need the structure and effort that writing some thing down provides me to see if it is worth thinking about. If I'm not willing to commit it to the writing process maybe I should put my mind on other things.
2. I am a Christian of the reformed tradition. I am finding that there is not a lot of political writing coming out of this rich theological tradition. there may be publications out there, I just haven't seen them yet. In an effort to answer some of my theological/political/ethical questions. I thought a blog would be a helpful tool in that it allows me to write it out and receive feed back.
3. To improve as a writer and communicator.
4. Most important to try and bring glory to Jesus by using my mind.

- Ideals and Ideologies: A Reader (7th Edition) by Richard Dagger and Terrance Ball; this is the best introduction to political idealogy and the study of poltical theory I have come across. highly readable, consice, and on point.
- Ghost Wars: The Secret History of the CIA, Afghanistan, and Bin Laden, from the Soviet Invasion to September 10, 2001 by Steve Coll; The definitive single volume history of the afghan conflict, America’s involvement in it, the rise of Bin Laden and what lessons we must learn form this to prevent terrorism and failed states in the future. The best part is it reads like fiction.
- International Ethics: Concepts, Theories, and Cases in Global Politics by Mark Amstutz; fantastic look at the moral and ethical debates in international relations. Provides a clear concise explanation of pressing issues in contemporary I.R. studies. Additionally, it provides case studies to help attach the theory to reality. Highly recommended.
- The American Political Tradition by Richard Hofstadter- Seminal work on the development of the political consciousness of America. Hofstadter chronicles history of political thought by writing fantastic biographical sketches of important American figures who contributed to the political fabric of America. If you only read on book on American politics read this one because it will explain so much of why we are who we are as a nation politically.

Go in with realistic expectations of exactly what you are accomplishing. My blog and yours are primarily for our minds only as nobody other than our moms and wives read them more than with meager regularity.
